IS A PERFORMATIVE INTERACTION WITH HYPEROBJECTS IN DIGITAL AND ANALOG GEOGRAPHIES. IT INTERFACES ARTISTIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORK THROUGH PRIMAL PLAY.
Hyperobjects are entities we cannot grasp in their entirety, such as water, cephalopods or the Giza plateau. They appear to us as an abstraction due to their scale, ethereal nature or temporal invisibility.
The act of befriending Hyperobjects not only raises awareness about the current distribution of elements and conditions of life on earth but also challenges us to redefine our concept of planetary abundance. Social media networks have created a solely human, synthetic concept of friendship which this project seeks to expand.
Befriending Hyperobjects is a new form of experimental environmentalism providing an infrastructure for the co-creation and co-becoming of different life forms.

Friend requests to different Hyperobjects manifest as workshops, rituals or collective meditations, often in a hybrid form. The aim is intrapersonal bonding and the promotion of kinship, empathy and eco-diversity.
The app allows users on a global scale to encounter, befriend and care for Hyperobjects and, by doing so, create monetary value. The app’s ecology interrupts established mechanisms of environmental work, art and technology by symbiotically relinking them.
We are assigning artists to meditate on and co-create with a Hyperobject. The resulting piece becomes part of the Hyperobject Helix and is being distributed to all users who befriended the Hyperobject.
The system is being built on an interactive geospatial protocol. Blockchain technology provides a safe and transparent system for distributing the funds directly into the chosen environmental projects.
Users will collectively generate value through an in- built token system that also allows them to vote how the funds will be spent in favor of the Hyperobject. Playing becomes an act of environmentalism and“profit” is being given back to the planet.
